CATS DESERVE A FUTURE WITH SUSTAINABLE FISH

But, without coral, fish can’t thrive. The world’s coral reefs are at breaking point. Without action, this essential ecosystem may be lost forever.

However, there’s hope. SHEBA® has a longstanding dedication to coral reef restoration through its Sheba Hope Grows™ program. Since launching in 2021, we have established coral reef restoration partnerships around the globe. Read on for more.

HOPE REEF
SHEBA® announced Hope Reef in 2021, the launch of a global movement to restore coral reefs around the world. Since work began at Hope Reef in Indonesia, coral has increased from 2% to 70%, fish abundance has increased by 260% and there’s been a 64% rise in the number of fish species.

The restoration of Hope Reef has not stopped, with the most recent contribution being the Big Build event in 2023.

OUR CORAL COMMITMENT
Our partner, Kuleana Coral Restoration
Opens a new window
, unites the ancestral wisdom of reef and ocean conservation with established scientific techniques to revive the coral reefs of Hawai’i. Collaborating with SHEBA and their marine scientists since 2023, Kuleana continues to pilot methods of coral restoration, together with training more teams, with the aim of restoring more sites around Hawai’i.

NURTURING THE MALDIVES
Following the success of Hope Reef in Indonesia, SHEBA® took the next step by implementing its restoration initiative at one of the world’s most vibrant locations, The Maldives.

Identified as an important ecoregion with a high dependency on its coral reefs, the Maldives represents a key site for coral reef restoration. SHEBA® will work with the strong alliance between MSS and the science-led body, The Maldives Coral Institute to support the established coral reef restoration program and save Maldivian coral reefs from irreversible loss and degradation.
Great Barrier Reef, Australia, 2020
THE GREAT RESTORATION
From our initial site in Indonesia, Hope is now growing much closer to Australian hearts: The Great Barrier Reef.

Using our unique Reef Stars, we’ve been able to out plant live coral fragments back onto the reef where they are thriving.

The GBR Reef Stars are built at a newly established manufacturing facility in Cairns, which also provides training to restoration practitioners and First Nations people to learn and lead Reef Star fabrication.

Through this program, we’ve installed 1,214 Reef Stars, 18,210 coral fragments, with some restoration sites representing 53 different species.
SUSTAINABILITY AT SHEBA

2023 ADVOCATES

In the second year of the advocate program, seven lucky candidates from around the world were selected for the opportunity of a lifetime – to restore coral reefs in person at SHEBA® Hope Reef within the Spermonde Archipelago, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. They received practical restoration training, worked with local community members, and restored an area of coral reef using Reef Stars.
